Chesterfield Young Ramblers.
Put simply, we are a friendly group of people who enjoy walking around the Peak District and Chesterfield area. We are a relaxed and informal group who want to combine walking with other activities including social events and weekends away. Our goal is to offer a wide range of walks and events that best suits all of our members. The term ‘young ramblers’ is used very generally. We provide walks at times that suit people of "working age" e.g. weekends, and summer evenings. Most of our group are in the age range 30 - 50 but all ages are more than welcome to join our walks.
We are fortunate to have magnificent countryside on our doorstep. The Peak District offers varied scenery - the wilder dark peak in the north features beautiful and sometime rugged moorland whereas the white peak in the south of the region is renowned for its picturesque rivers and deep-cut dales.
Walking is a very good way of relieving the stresses and strains built up in the week. It's also one of the easiest ways to become more active and improve your health. We arrange walks of varying length and difficulty meaning that you can choose a walk that suits your current fitness level.
Walking in a group provides excellent opportunities for socialising, meeting new people and making new friends. Some people also feel more secure walking in group and it allows them to walk in areas they might not otherwise have considered.
Our walks are usually between 4 to 10 miles although we do occasionally do longer ones for the members that like to stretch their legs a bit more. Typically, our walks are in the Peak District but in winter, when the days are shorter and weather less reliable we include more walks in the Chesterfield area.
We walk at a moderate pace and build in time for taking photos, viewing interesting features and stopping for coffee breaks. if you are in any doubt about your fitness level we would advise that you choose a shorter, less strenuous walk in the first instance. Unless the walk is very short we have a lunch stop about half way round, so please bring sandwiches/snacks with you. We sometimes visit a tea room or pub after the walk but this will depend on the walk leader and any time constraints.
