Route: Derwent Reservoir - Hagg Side Wood - Locker-brook Farm - Bellhag Tor - Pasture Tor - Alport Castles (land slip) - Blackley Hey - Hagg Farm - Derwent Reservoir

Parking: On the road parking or in the main Fairholmes car park (pay and display).

Facilities: Toilets and refreshments are available at Fairholmes visitor centre.

Walk Description: The walk is a relatively difficult 10.5 mile walk with steep gradients. Underfoot conditions are dry. The first hour of this walk is a very steep climb, there are also several steep climbs throughout this walk.  Note: Dogs – owners risk, must be kept on a lead. There are horses and possibly cows in the fields on this walk.

Walks Difficulty


Leisurely - walks for reasonably fit people with at least a little country walking experience. May include unsurfaced rural paths. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are recommended.

Moderate - walks for people with country walking experience and a good level of fitness. May include some steep paths and open country. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are essential.

Strenuous - walks for experienced country walkers with an above average fitness level. May include hills and rough country, and may be at a brisk pace. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are essential. People in doubt about their fitness should contact the organiser or leader in advance.

Please note you should wear suitable footwear and clothing for the time of year. Take waterproofs, food and water and either additional clothing for winter walks / poor weather and sun cream and extra water for summer walks. The walk leader can refuse anyone who they do not feel is able or prepared for the walk.
