We start the walk at Grindleford station. From there we drop down into Hathersage going along the river Derwent and through some lovely woodland. Once in the village we begin our ascent towards Stanedge going past Little John's grave. We continue to rise until we eventually hit Upper Booth and then curl round to Fox House. From Fox House we drop down Padley Gorge, returning to Grindleford station and its famous cafe. Here we can replenish ourselves with tea, coffee, hot chocolate, even Horlicks.
The walk includes one hard climb and two moderate climbs and as this is winter, expect some mud.
Leisurely - walks for reasonably fit people with at least a little country walking experience. May include unsurfaced rural paths. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are recommended.
Moderate - walks for people with country walking experience and a good level of fitness. May include some steep paths and open country. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are essential.
Strenuous - walks for experienced country walkers with an above average fitness level. May include hills and rough country, and may be at a brisk pace. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are essential. People in doubt about their fitness should contact the organiser or leader in advance.
Please note you should wear suitable footwear and clothing for the time of year. Take waterproofs, food and water and either additional clothing for winter walks / poor weather and sun cream and extra water for summer walks. The walk leader can refuse anyone who they do not feel is able or prepared for the walk.
