Walk Description

Starting at the village hall we head up Wilkin Hill behind the Peacock pub. After a quarter of a mile we take a left turn towards Oxton Rakes and shortly after reaching the farm we head north towards Holmesfield passing through Rumbling Street on the way. Before we reach Holmesfield we turn back towards Barlow, passing through the fishing ponds on the way.

The walk is undulating but there are no lung busting hills. The landscape is mainly farmland and some woodland, the trickiest part being the decent of a steep bank down to a brook near Peakley Hill. Depending on the weather there may be some muddy areas.

Walks Difficulty

Leisurely - walks for reasonably fit people with at least a little country walking experience. May include unsurfaced rural paths. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are recommended.

Strenuous - walks for experienced country walkers with an above average fitness level. May include hills and rough country, and may be at a brisk pace. Walking boots and warm, waterproof clothing are essential. People in doubt about their fitness should contact the organiser or leader in advance.
